“Know Thyself”

As time marches on, so does our language and the meaning behind certain maxims. “The Fight for Freedom” has meant a multitude of different things to those who sought it’s outcome. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom from tyranny, and freedom of self expression seem to be the basic tenants the 21st century is moving towards, but not without it’s struggles. History reminds us that humanity has taken it’s most significant steps forward after facing some dark truth, during which our self reflection inspires an age of renaissance. Having more information at our fingertips than any other point in history, one of our biggest challenges is recognizing propaganda, and why its being presented to us. Fortunately, the search for truth is one of our species oldest undertakings. Almost three thousand years ago in ancient Greece, Maxims, (truths) were written on the Temple of Apollo at Delphi that helped in our journey of self reflection. “Know Thyself”, “Nothing in excess”, and “Give a pledge and trouble is at hand” were three of the most famous, and seem to be more appropriate today than ever. Remember that life is moving at the same speed it always has, its only data thats been speed up. Take the time to “Know Thyself”.
